Dell OptiPlex 7070 Micro

The OptiPlex 7070 Micro is Dell's 2019 top-tier Micro, on Intel's Q370 chipset with an I219-LM NIC and AMT support. Dell's setup guide lists both 8th- and 9th-gen processors: 35 W T-series chips up to the eight-core Core i9-9900T, and 65 W desktop chips up to the Core i9-9900, which ship with a 130 W adapter. The official memory ceiling is 32 GB across two DDR4-2666 SO-DIMMs, though ServeTheHome ran 2x 32 GB successfully. Storage is one M.2 2280 SATA/NVMe slot plus a 2.5-inch bay. Power matters here: on a 65 W brick, ServeTheHome's 35 W unit warned and dropped to a reduced-performance mode until it got the 90 W adapter Dell specifies. STH measured just over 13 W idle and over 60 W peak on a Core i5-9500T. It makes a strong, quiet six-to-eight-core homelab node.

Buying guide

Which one to buy

Oct 4, 2026

269 OptiPlex 7070 Micros are listed, and most complete units run $150–380 delivered, though a complete i5-9500T with 8 GB and an SSD starts at about $130. Look for a named CPU, a stated SSD and the right adapter: Dell specifies 90 W for T-series chips and 130 W for the 65 W i7-9700, which drops into reduced-performance mode on a smaller brick. Titles reading 'up to 64GB RAM & 2TB SSD' are configure-to-order base prices, and the 7070 Micro tops out at 32 GB anyway.
