Dell OptiPlex 5050 Micro
The OptiPlex 5050 Micro is the mid-tier sibling of the 3050 and 7050 Micro: the same 1-liter chassis and 6th/7th-gen Intel T-series (35 W) processors, here reaching the quad-core, eight-thread Core i7-7700T. Dell lists two DDR4 SO-DIMM slots (32 GB max), one M.2 slot for SATA or PCIe SSDs, a 2.5-inch SATA bay and a 65 W adapter. Unlike the 3050, the wired port is an Intel I219-V, which avoids the extra driver work ServeTheHome flagged for Realtek-based Dell Micros under VMware ESXi. Dell's documentation lists only the I219-V, a NIC without Intel AMT, so do not count on out-of-band management. Front USB includes a PowerShare port, and the rear has HDMI and DisplayPort with an optional extra video, serial or PS/2 port. A good quiet home server or Linux desktop when four cores are enough.

Check before you buy
- Ask for the exact CPU: the 5050 Micro shipped with everything from a dual-core Pentium G4560T to a Core i7-7700T, and the title often just says 'Intel Core'.
- Make sure a 65 W Dell adapter is included; the Micro has no internal power supply.
- Wi-Fi was optional, so check the photos for a WLAN card and antennas if you need wireless.
- Boot into BIOS setup (F2) and confirm there is no admin password set and that Computrace (Absolute) is not set to Activate; Dell's BIOS exposes both under Security.
General off-lease checks (BIOS passwords, Computrace, missing drive caddies) are in the used mini PC buying checklist.
