HP EliteDesk 800 G3 Desktop Mini

The EliteDesk 800 G3 Desktop Mini is HP's 2017 business 1-liter PC built on the Q270 chipset. Most used units carry 35 W 7th-gen T-series chips such as the Core i5-7500T or i7-7700T; HP also sold a 65 W version with full desktop CPUs and some 6th-gen configurations. It takes two DDR4 SO-DIMMs (32 GB official), one M.2 NVMe drive plus a 2.5-inch SATA bay, has two DisplayPorts and one configurable rear port, and uses an Intel I219-LM NIC, with Intel AMT on Core i5 and i7 vPro models. It handles light homelab duty, Home Assistant or a small file server well, but it tops out at four cores, and some STH readers report a fan that whines under Linux.

General off-lease checks (BIOS passwords, Computrace, missing drive caddies) are in the used mini PC buying checklist.

Buying guide

Which one to buy

Oct 4, 2026

233 EliteDesk 800 G3 Minis are listed, and most complete units run $100–170 delivered, with an i5-7500 or i5-6500, 8 GB and a 256 GB SSD at about $110–120. These 6th- and 7th-gen chips aren't officially supported by Windows 11, so plan on Windows 10 or Linux whatever the title says. Check which adapter is included, since 65 W i5-7500 and i5-6500 units need HP's higher-wattage adapter rather than the 65 W one, and ask that the BIOS has no admin password. Ignore the $1,200 listing.
