Dell OptiPlex 7050 Micro
The OptiPlex 7050 Micro is the top tier of Dell's 2017 Micro line. It uses 6th-gen (Skylake) and 7th-gen (Kaby Lake) Intel processors, not 8th-gen Coffee Lake as is sometimes claimed, so every configuration is at most four cores and eight threads. Dell lists 35 W T-series chips up to the Core i7-7700T, and its owner's manual also lists 65 W desktop chips and a 130 W adapter alongside the standard 65 W brick. Dell specifies two DDR4-2400 SO-DIMMs (32 GB max), one M.2 2280 NVMe slot (PCIe Gen3 x4), a 2.5-inch SATA bay, HDMI plus DisplayPort 1.2, and an optional second DisplayPort, VGA, serial or PS/2 port. It is a tidy quad-core Linux, Home Assistant or light Docker box. For a heavier Proxmox host, the six-core 7060 Micro is the meaningful step up.

Check before you buy
- Match the adapter to the CPU: Dell lists 65 W and 130 W adapters for this model, and a unit with a 65 W desktop chip (no 'T' suffix) needs the 130 W one.
- Do not pay a Coffee Lake premium: the 7050 Micro is 6th/7th-gen only, so an 'i5 six-core' or '8th gen' 7050 listing is wrong.
- Check the photos for a WLAN card and antenna leads if you need Wi-Fi; it was an option, not standard.
- Boot into BIOS setup (F2) and confirm there is no admin password set and that Computrace (Absolute) is not set to Activate; Dell's BIOS exposes both under Security.
General off-lease checks (BIOS passwords, Computrace, missing drive caddies) are in the used mini PC buying checklist.
