HP t740 Thin Client
The HP t740 is HP's high-end thin client: a quad-core, eight-thread AMD Ryzen Embedded V1756B with Vega 8 graphics in a 2-liter tower with a fan. Unlike most 1-liter boxes it has a low-profile PCIe slot (x16 physical, wired x8), which is why homelab buyers use it for 10 GbE NICs, HBAs or the optional Radeon E9173. It takes two DDR4 SO-DIMMs (64 GB reported working) and has two M.2 storage slots, one NVMe and one SATA, but no 2.5-inch bay. The trade-offs are power and noise: STH measured 19-20 W idle and found the single fan loud near 90 W. ThinPro or Windows IoT installs and small flash modules are common, so budget for an SSD.

Specs that matter used
- CPU generation
- AMD Ryzen Embedded R1000 / V1000
- CPU options
- Ryzen Embedded V1756B
- Form factor
- Thin client
- Memory
- DDR4 SO-DIMM, 2 slots
- Max RAM (official)
- 32 GB — Parkytowers reports a user running 2×32 GB (64 GB) successfully; HP configurations went to 32 GB.
- Storage
- 2× M.2 M-key storage slots: one PCIe/NVMe (2230/2242/2280, also used for eMMC flash modules) and one SATA-only (2230/2242/2280). No 2.5-inch bay.
- Ethernet
- 1 × 1 GbE (Realtek RTL8111-family gigabit NIC; HP also offered fiber NIC options, and the PCIe slot takes a low-profile NIC)
- Wi-Fi
- M.2 2230 E-key slot (Intel 9260-class cards); option port can carry the external antenna
- vPro / AMT
- No
- Cooling
- Fan-cooled
- Power adapter
- HP 90 W, 19.5 V 4.62 A adapter with a 4.5 mm / 3.0 mm barrel and centre pin
- Discrete GPU
- Optional AMD Radeon E9173, which adds two DisplayPort outputs; otherwise the PCIe slot takes a low-profile card (x16 slot wired x8, about 35 W of slot power)
- Measured idle draw
- 19–20 W (ServeTheHome measured idle 'in the 19-20W range' on a V1756B unit in a review that tested add-in NICs; the card fitted during the idle reading is not stated; source)
- Windows 11
- Not on Microsoft's supported-CPU list

Check before you buy
- Make sure the 90 W adapter is included; STH saw 65-90 W under load with a NIC installed.
- Check that the PCIe riser is present; Parkytowers notes it was supplied in all configurations, so a missing riser means a stripped unit.
- Keep add-in cards modest (STH suggests 10 W or less), since STH ran into thermal problems with a 100 GbE NIC and the slot regulator limits it to about 35 W.
- Check the boot storage, because many units ship with a small eMMC or flash module and HP ThinPro.
General off-lease checks (BIOS passwords, Computrace, missing drive caddies) are in the used mini PC buying checklist.
